1000 Books Before School

1000 Books Before School

Register for 1000 Books Before School!

Research tells us that the most reliable predictor of school success is being read to at home during early childhood.

This program is designed to help you make reading a regular part of your routine with your child, and support you to reach the wonderful milestone of reading 1000 books before they start school.

Download a Registration Form or collect one on your next visit to the library, along with your free Starter Pack.

How does it work?

All you need to do is hand in your completed Registration Form at a branch of Darebin Libraries, collect your free Starter Pack and begin reading with your child.

The Starter Pack includes your first Reading Record.

Add a sticker each time you read a book with your child, and when you've completed the first Reading Record you'll be at the first milestone of 100 books!

Pop into the library with your completed Reading Record to receive your child's first reward and collect Reading Record 2.

It's as simple as that!  You just keep reading, working your way through the Reading Records and collecting rewards as you go.

Handy Information

The program is for kids aged 0 to 5 years.

You'll need a library membership to complete the Registration Form.  The membership can be in your name, or your child's.  Don't have a membership?  Join online

If you're on a roll and want to start on your new Reading Record before your next visit to the library, you can download it here.

Reading Records

N.B. Reading Record 1 comes in your Starter Pack, which you can collect from any branch of Darebin Libraries.

Which books can I include on the Reading Record?

Library books, of course!  Online books count too.

Books from home.

If you come along to Storytime, you can count the books read at the Storytime session.

Your favourites!  Young kids often love re-reading books. You can read those well-loved books over and over, and count each reading as an entry on your Reading Record.

Happy Reading!
