  • Colouring the Rainbow

Coloring the Rainbow: Blak Queer and Trans Perspectives

When: 7 Feb 2017, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    Location: Northcote Library
Join a panel of Blak Queer speakers for an evening of stimulating discussion about the lives and experiences of First Nations LGBTIQ people. This is your opportunity to ask those questions you've always wanted to know more about, and to talk with Blak Queer people on topics ranging from traditional knowledge and notions of gender and sexuality through to the Racial Discrimination Act and free speech in modern Australia.

The starting point for this event is the ground-breaking book Colouring the Rainbow (2015) that uncovers the often hidden world of Queer and Trans Blak Australia and tells it like it is.

In this book twenty-two First Nations people reveal their inner reflections and outlooks on family and culture, identity and respect, homophobia, transphobia, racism and decolonisation, activism, art, performance and more through life stories and essays. The book contributors not only record the continuing relevance of traditional culture and practices, they also explain the emergence of homonormativity within the context of contemporary settler colonialism.

Darebin Libraries is proud to support and strengthen diversity in our local community through celebration, acknowledgement and respect.
